Smartphone & Peripheral eWarp IC Camera Opportunities:

  • Smartphones & Tablets
  • Things that Attach to Smartphones
  • Things Accessed Remotely by Smartphones

As smartphones/tablets sport multiple and ever-higher resolution cameras, manufacturers need to keep both the optics and the image sensors physically small, low in cost and low in power, while ensuring good image quality. GEO believes that hundreds of smartphone peripherals will emerge - some attached to the smartphones, and some accessed remotely by the smartphone. GEO's next generation low cost eWarp processors can simultaneously correct all optical issues while enabling multiple new applications. Smartphone peripherals include fisheye lens-based personal/small group video-conferencing; add-ons that snap onto smartphones to significantly improve the camera image and video performance so it approaches that of standard digital cameras and camcorders, and new cloud-based applications yet to be defined. The "long tail" of smartphone peripherals represents a huge video camera opportunity for GEO. It is unlikely that the mainstream players like Apple, Samsung and Google will add these kinds of features as they would add substantial BOM cost. However, consumers may readily pay $100 for an AppBanc device, or $300 for a Go Pro wearable camera.
