GEO Semiconductor Inc. “GEO”, founded by Paul Russo in 2009, is a company rich with IP and technology. GEO is the culmination of three technology acquisitions: Genesis Microchip (eWarp Geometric processing), Teranex (Realta video processing algorithms) and Mobilygen (H.264 video compression).

Genesis Microchip, also founded by Paul Russo, started the first phase of the digital video revolution, went public in 1998 (NASDAQ: GNSS), and reached a market cap of $2 billion at its peak. Paul left Genesis in 2000 to spin-off the geometry processing technology and led to the creation of Silicon Optix. This allowed for a decade of technology, applications and fundamental patent maturation in geometric processing in projection, display and cameras.

In 2004 Silicon Optix acquired Teranex Inc which was an early partner with GEO in creating the Realta chip – the highest quality video processing IC in the industry. The Realta chip’s video processing algorithms have gone through 100′s of thousands of hours of Hollywood video content, to achieve absolute best-in-class video algorithms for de-interlacing, cadence detection, scaling, detail enhancement and, most critically, various forms of noise reduction (Gaussian, codec, etc.). These capabilities, in addition to superb video quality, also make possible material reductions in bandwidth requirements for video over IP (noise kills encoders). The Realta chip revolutionized the way HD/SD video processing is done – in software! Teranex was awarded an Engineering Emmy Plaque award in 2007 for its SIMD technology impact on the television industry.

In 2012 GEO acquired Maxim Integrated’s Video Processing product line which consisted of the original Mobilygen business. Mobilygen was founded in 2001 and was a leader in H.264 video compression ICs. Mobilygen was the first company to deliver H.264 compression in a single chip solution. Originally designed for mobile, the technology was recognized as having best in class performance with extremely low power. The group later branched out into security and surveillance, Smart TV and home monitoring “Cloud Cameras”.

The combined company is now a force in imaging and video delivering world-class solutions in Automotive, Security and all cameras connected to the cloud.
